Among the greatest experiences in the life of every collector, art historian and art dealer are the moments when they come into possession of a work of art that they have never seen before or that they only recognize from an old, yellowed photograph. The author of the volume, Péter Molnos, and the publisher, Tamás Kieselbach, have experienced this feeling like no other many times. A masterpiece hidden in an attic, under a finger-thick layer of dust, a picture worth hundreds of millions kept in a linen closet for decades, a museum-quality work of art found at the Ecseri market, or a painting that just arrived home from an auction in New York. Over the past twenty years, the memory of Hungarian painting has been expanded through such stories.
